  • Help re-creating /dev/sda after E10 recovery

    Hi All,
I just un-bricked my E10 with the Windows jffs2 programming utility per the OS recovery instructions in the E10 manual. I'm trying to load the updated OS and default SNAP connect programs/scripts via a USB flash disk, but I can't mount /dev/sda1 because /dev/sda doesn't exist after the recovery.
I can see that it's supposed to be /dev/sda1 via dmesg, and I suspect that I need to use mknod to manually create /dev/sda and/or /dev/sda1, but what parameters should use use when invoking mknod? (Or am I on the wrong track entirely?)

    Thanks for helping out.

I usually use Ethernet and let the DHCP server give an IP and use WinSCP to upload the files. Even if I don't have DHCP I usually just assign my Ethernet Port to something like 192.168.10.100. (If you do this make sure you record all your data because Windows will loose it.) Then use "ifconfig" to get the IP if DHCP has been used. Note: You will have a bad MAC but as long as your on the local LAN it should not be problem and you will fix it anyway in the in the OS Upgrade step when it boots into U-Boot.

Also the first "OS Upgrade image" is located in the Recovery Zip "connect-e10-rootfs.arm-20100630.jffs2"

I believe this is the most complete discription on how to get your "E10" to factory shipping state.

Now if you are using the Arrow M2M Kit with that E10 its got a little extra stuff in it and this may help.

Sorry didn't answer your specific mount question. But I'd have to break out an E10 and try to verify. The links using Ethernet is how I usually do because I can do it all remotely.

Remember You have to set the passwd via serial (direct microUSB connection) to enable SSH Ethernet port. So you do actually have to touch it once.

Well... I was asking about USB because my ssh link is unreliable and can't maintain a connection long enough to transfer files via WinSCP. I'm trying to get things back up and running via another route now; namely by installing/recovering to the beta E10 v1.1 software.

USB in that recovery image _does_ work, and it loads a bunch of stuff automatically via the USB stick saving me from needing to load it manually!
So far so good - I think that the OS recovery to v1.1 from the USB stick worked this time.

Now, if only I knew the default E10 v1.1 login and password...
