  • Portal 2.5 release notes

Are referenced but not included. I'd like to see the changes. I like the new "type(obj)" function. I found that comparing BuiltIn.py with the prior version.

The latest release also appears to solve a VERY OLD bug with strings, where a string would mysteriously get stepped on with the snappy address of a recent device that sent an RPC to us. We were debating upgrading our products to this release but fixing this bug answers that question (assuming this is a know fix and not just a random fix -- that's why I want the release notes.)

I understand that this release uses hardware in e.g., Atmel, for AES encryption. Are there any tests on performance impact? Has the sniffer code been upgraded with hardware AES decryption support?

While I'm on the subject of sniffer, are we likely to see a new release any time soon? The current one won't search for snappy addresses, save output in any useful way (text, csv, etc.), etc...

What other goodies does 2.5 have???

    Thanks

I would start with the SNAP release notes and review that located here on the forum, under "SNAP software" ... http://forums.synapse-wireless.com/showthread.php?t=9

    Regarding encryption, from engineering .......

The AES-128 support in the 2.4 series of ATMEL SNAP did 100% of the encryption steps in software.

The AES-128 support in the 2.5 series moved two of the steps (one on the encrypt side, one on the decrypt side) to hardware inside the ATMEL chip, but the bulk of the process is still done in software.

Hardware capabilities of the ATMEL chip can be found in the ATMEL datasheets.

The 2.5 version of encryption is backwards compatible with the 2.4 version (2.4 and 2.5 units can freely communicate with each other).

The 2.5 version is slightly faster due to the use of the “hardware assist”.

I suspect the 2.5 version took slightly less FLASH space.

In short, the SNAP2.5 encryption is exactly the same as 2.4 – just a little faster.

      No Release Notes

There are no 2.5 release notes on that page - just the older ones...

Thanks for the update on encryption. Now that we can provision encryption keys dynamically, we're running everything encrypted w/o manual intervention.

          Not where it belongs

          No link to this at
          http://forums.synapse-wireless.com/showthread.php?t=9

I've looked at the page several times, and can't find this.
Just saying it aught to be at the top of the release notes stack just under the Portal links for Windows, Linux and Mac.
